Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. The Hunger Games Movie (2012) is a new film based on the novel by Suzanne Collins. Many adults who’ve read these books will realise how they always read as if they have been written for screen adaptation.
Each page of the book is filled with dread & has a very straightforward story, that literally begs a Hollywood studio to pick up the book & turn it into a film. There is no doubt that this is going to be a very successful franchise & the first part is highly entertaining.
The director of The Hunger Games movie is Gary Rossi, who was previously been known for his 1990s movie, Pleasantville, & the 2003 film, Seabiscuit. It seems that the producers of Hunger Games Movie have made the right choice selecting him as director. Other directors might be tempted to simply pad out the film with the graphic fighting scenes that can be read in the books, yet he has chosen to tone these down & make the film a little bit more intelligent.

Jennifer Lawrence starts as the heroine in Hunger Games movie, Katniss Everdeen. There are many scenes of violence in the film which involve killing, yet it has managed to achieve a 12 age rating. In this future there is an intense divide between the rich & the poor & in order for the rich to be entertained, children from the poor districts are made to fight against each other to the death. This is something that takes place every year & is called The Hunger Games movie.
This event is then televised in a way that is very similar to what was seen in the film The Truman Show. The Hunger Games Movie follows a character who has been taken from the 12th district & how she is trained by the organisation in order to fight against the other contestants.
Many people will be tempted to draw comparisons with the adaptations of the Harry Potter novels as well as the Twilight books. The task of the writers for this film was slightly different however, as they have spent less time cutting detail out of the book. The Hunger Games Movie (2012)
Hunger Games Movie is a marathon at two & a half hours long, yet it doesn’t feel as if it is overly inflated in any way. The audience will have the impression that there is enough substantial material throughout the film to justify its long length.
The editing of Hunger Games Movie is a little bit over the top, & instead of adding a sense of urgency through quick takes & hand held camera close-ups, it feels more like chaos. Good acting from Lawrence will probably make up for a viewer’s dislike of the overwrought editing.
